Tilshead Camp Picnic

Saturday, 24th May 2008

WAGS was offered the use of some of the facilities at Tilshead Army Cadet Force Training Camp on the A360 between Tilshead and Shrewton. The Camp is situated on the Salisbury Plain with good walking routes across open country in all directions. Facilities included a secure parking/meeting area, kitchen and toilets.

We kicked off at 2pm with a walk from the parking area at Tilshead Camp. We headed out onto the Plain in a south-easterly direction towards a large copse of trees and then looped around making a circuit back to camp.

It was extremely windy but the warm temperatures and mostly sunny skies made it an enjoyable walk. The dogs reveled in the long grass blown about by the wind.

Wind and wild dogs!

Our walk is interrupted by a police patrol. The dogs surround the car and two very brave Police Officers step out of their vehicle into a pack of 8 German Shepherd Dogs. Two of the dogs immediately jump into the vacated front seats of the patrol car.

A confusion of dogs.

One of the Officers has a quiet word with the dogs and, in particular, with Frankie who gets a pointed finger and a warning.

Although hilly, this was not a difficult walk and just long enough to work up an appetite. A picnic and a nice cup of tea were awaiting us back at camp.
