Martin Down Nature Reserve
Sunday 7th September
Martin Down is a Nature Reserve between Salisbury and Blandford.

A quick perusal of the area suggested plenty of off-road parking, empty footpaths through lovely chalk downs and the possibility of a circular walk (to be explored).

Most WAGS walks are thoroughly checked out in advance but, due to the recent weather conditions and a busy schedule, we were unable to do any reconnaissance at Martin Down. Therefore, rather than cancel the walk, we decided to invite all GSDs and one Spaniel to explore this nature reserve with us.
Hunting rabbit.
We were very lucky to have Craig along who seemed to know what he was doing. He led us on a two-hour circular walk, winging it with just a hand drawn mini map. Every so often, he scaled a peak to get his bearings and, amazingly, he circumvented all horse-back riders and rain showers!
Will you please look at the camera!
The inevitable mud puddle.
Between them, the dogs managed to find three dead rabbits on route. And, most of the dogs got covered in large grass seed. Izzy was particularly disturbed by the seeds and refused to continue until all the seeds had been painstakingly removed from her fur. Poor Jackie had to stop every few minutes to de-seed her.

Back at camp, we wolfed down hotdogs and lots of tea and coffee.
