Snow Dog

Molly has never seen snow before.

We had four inches overnight. In the morning, the sun came out and it was beautiful. We headed for the park.

At first, she kept her nose to the ground and, attempting to scent it, she snorted the snow noisily. She used her nose as a snowplough, shovelling it along in front of her. Where the snow had mounded in drifts, she dug through to the grass.

I can't get enough of this white stuff.

I threw a snowball at her and she suddenly realised the fun we were going to have with the white stuff. She took off like a coiled spring, bouncing through the deeper drifts.

We did have fun too, with lots of snow fights and frolicking. I pelted her with snowballs, which she tried to catch as if they were tennis balls.

Fun.

Fun!

At one point, Molly took her place on a plinth and stood motionless for minutes listening for squirrels. She made a wonderful statue at the centre of the park.

After a while, it started to snow again. The sun disappeared and it got so dark I had to shoot with the flash. It was ghostly and otherworldly, but as the fluffy flakes turned to a blizzard, we retreated to the car and home to thaw our toes.

Ghostly.
